July 4th Parade

Watermelon! To me, this is the best part of July 4th - a big, fat, juicy Watermelon! During the years of both of my Grandmothers, neither would buy a Watermelon before the 4th of July - they said that the early melons wasn't as good (juicy and sweet) as the ones that came in later. So every July 3rd, off they would go to buy a Watermelon and put it in the fridge or a cooler so that it would have a full day to get real cold. The melon above was lacking black seed, but it was real good.

Speaking of black seed, Pop was the Georgia Champ at spitting seeds. Only one person ever came close to beating him - that was Gordon - and only if he took his teeth out.

....:)

Back to the Parade:

The ladies in this pic won the pick as my favorite - the dresses were really beautiful and they looked gorgeous walking down the street.

Southern Bells

The lady in this pic won the pick as my second favorite - she looked beautiful in her white dress with her pink umbrella.

This year, the ladies were best and won 'hands down'!

We still haven't bought a watermellon yet. I think the best grown around here are the bogue banks water mellons... also the most expensive.. my husband thinks B.C. Norris' water mellons are the best... not cheap... but good. We searched for him around town on Sunday, but couldn't find his truck...LOL (oh and I don't like mine cold.. hurts my teeth)

Your parade was wonderful.. Loved the ladies in their beautiful dresses and also the older lady that you chose ... I really enjoyed the slide show... nothing like a hometown parade...

Deborah,

We didn't have a parade around here. Love the dresses in both pics. We did have cold watermelon at the cabin as desert after the cook out. Yummo! But today, our last day at the cabin celebrating the 4th (Greg's getting ready to drive home now)we had cantaloupe.

The weather has been perfect. Spent three straight hours on the river this morning, and din't want to get off, but had to!

I enjoyed your post!

Deborah,

What lovely dresses these belles are wearing and the lady looks so beautiful riding in the parade.

Hope you had a great 4th. I love watermelon. One of these days the boys and I are going to take a nice cold one and eat it after swimming.

Thanks for sharing the parade.
Blessings,
Mary

Speaking of Watermellon - just wait until you ladies see what my dog did to mine that I have (or had) growing in the garden!

Renie,

I'll be on the lake this weekend - this time I'm taking my fishin' pole...:)

Hey Deborah, looks like the Kennesaw little General cloggers were missing at the parade this year. -H

Dot,

Parades are always fun - but this year was short on the floats. Everybody had a fit over the dresses - now, given that she was at the parade with me, Envy wants one! I told her she could have one when she gets 18 - that all of them clothes that had to be worn under the dress were illegal before age 18. lol

Howard,

Yes, the little general cloggers were missing this year - a big disappointment because they are a favorite - everyone likes to watch them do a little clogging down Roswell Street.

Strange, I have lived up in the North Georgia mountains since 1986 and I never realized Marietta had a parade. Of course, I never go to the city....

Hermit,

I leave the city every chance I get - if I wasn't obligated to tech for two more quarters, I wouldn't be here right now. Not that I hate where I live - it's just getting too populated - which makes life a little too complicated and stressful. I don't like my life complicated or stressful. Life is slower in the mountains and that's how I like it - and why I'm outta here shortly. I'd much rather live with the raccoons and bears. I'm always pointing out how animals are much more intelligent than humans.

Right now, you're the lucky one..:)
